Financial Statement Preparation
Accounting is the language of business. Frequently banks, vendors and regulatory authorities request financial statements before providing services for your company. Most of the time they are not asking for an audit or a review, but a compiled financial statement will meet their needs. For a compilation, the CPA becomes familiar with the nature of a client's transactions, and then compiles the company's financial data into a financial statement format. A compilation is limited to presenting information, in the form of financial statements, which is the representation of management. The procedures performed as part of the compilation of financial statements cannot be relied upon to detect all misstatements that might exist due to error, fraudulent financial reporting, or misappropriation of assets. The company's management is responsible for establishing and maintaining a system of internal control, which is the best means of preventing or detecting errors, fraudulent financial reporting, and misappropriation of assets. The CPA reads the statement for obvious errors, but does not express any opinion on their conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.
General Ledger and Journal Maintenance
Financial statements are prepared from the general ledger and the various journals of the company. We provide a variety of services to our clients in maintaining their general ledger and journals. Those services range from us doing everything, including preparing the accounts payable checks, sending out invoices for current services and reconciling bank accounts, to preparing only specialized journal entries such as depreciation. We are here to supplement the accounting which is prepared by our clients or their staff.
Accounting System Design and Implementation
Far from the day when accountants kept your records on large paper worksheets, the businesses of today have many options and tools to design an effective accounting system and then to implement the plan. There is no one system that works for all companies. Many times the design will include the client preparing part of the records while third party vendors, i.e. a payroll service provider like Mantyla McReynolds, provide another piece of the overall system. As our professionals meet with you we will help you design the system that meets your needs. Equally important is being there to help in transforming your system as your needs change. It is hard to separate an effective accounting system design from our Business Advisory Services where we can help you select and implement the best accounting software for your needs. We are advisors for QuickBooks®, an excellent source of accounting software.
